Not in the Hunt

June 15th 2010 15:04
Gold Coast's new signing Karmichael Hunt made his debut on the weekend for the Gold Coast, and he started with a bang booting 2 goals, and then vanished, as far as the stats go. Sure, he ran around with his head cut off a few times, went to ground, and looked more lost then Sam Newman at a Women's Rights meeting.

It's easy to bag Hunt, in fact I already have, but let's face it, he was stupid going to France and then expecting to come back in and start off with a fire. People have been hyping him up from day one, and then when it came time to deliver, he just looked like he didn't give a toss. He's still in my opinion another year away from ever being in the right mindset to play football.

But knowing the Gold Coast, in a publicised push for more fans, they are going to rush him, they are going to play him in the AFL every week, and make sure that he is out there getting his name in the paper, but for what? A few more people in the seats? Aren't we looking to win games? Or has that now become an afterthought?

We don't need to win as long as we have fans? Well Gold Coast, and even West Sydney you are in a fickle market, you are pushing AFL to people that don't give a rats about the game, and losing ain't going to get people to come watch you. Most fans are just waiting for the first major stuff up. With every loss in the VFL the fans who wanted to see a Tasmanian side are just grinning and laughing already, and while they are playing kids, and recycled players at the moment I am sure they are going to bring in some more.

Some may expect the Gold Coasters to try and rush their progression up the ladder by selling off draft picks for players, remember when the Brisbane Bears started? Skase was throwing the money around and brought guys like Brad Hardie, Roger Merret, and Mark Williams to the club, only for that to put back the evolution of the club by a full decade.

Yes, let's splash around the cash for a guy who would rather piss off the France and earn a few dollars then play for the club. Now we have Folau to look forward to, will he go overseas as well? Might as well, he's getting paid a stupid amount of money to look like a real tool, and try and get a bunch of West Sydney people who don't care to attempt to care.

Again, you have signed a guy who has never played AFL, so he spent time in Melbourne, I spent time in NSW but I wouldn't know how to play NRL. And your coach is already whinging, well done on signing Sheedy, the guy whose game plan started to sink the Bombers, and is stuck in 1998. Expect to see Sheedy drafting any washed up player he can find and try and make them a star, I suppose Richard Cole will be on speed dial for Sheedy.

I am not holding my breath to see Hunt become a star AFL player, this media whore will just be another Queensland failure, welcome to the AFL Brisbane Bears Version 2.
