Tasmanian Greens expected to slash Hawthorn sponsorship
March 27th 2010 04:50
While it is still unclear who has won the Tasmanian State Election and who will be the power in the state, the Greens have come out and said if they are given any type of power in the new hung parliament in the state the Tasmanian sponsorship will be slashed. The Greens have never been a fan of the sponsorship and even some Tasmanians are not happy about the check cut to the Hawks after their Grand Final triumph.
The Hawks are not happy that their sponsorship is going to lose $1million with the campaign to bring more Hawks games to Tasmania in the near future this could almost put an end to this. There is still one seat that is not yet decided in the Tasmanian electorate of Bradden, it is expected the Greens are going to win that, while the Tasmanian Liberals have already told the Greens they want nothing to do with them, the Tasmanian Labor party will no doubt look to slash off the million dollars to remain in power with a partnership until the next State election with the Greens.
It will be a shame if this means that the Hawks are going to look to pull up stumps and not venture to Tasmania, while paying them a lot of money may not be a thing the Greens like, and some Tasmanians like, but what about the money they bring in? And the fact that Tasmania gets AFL games, even though the battle for an AFL side for the state is still a must for Tasmanians in the government and governing body here for football, we still want AFL games.
Where will the 1million go? It's anybodies guess, the Greens have looked to pump money into the West Coast of Tasmania starting with a grandstand at the Zeehan Oval, I hope that the Hawks can still play games and look to play more games in Tasmania, as I hope to attend a game later in the season to see the Hawks take on the Lions, and it would be a sad thing for the Tasmanian football followers to have their AFL removed completely because the Greens are not a fan of the AFL or the sponsorship of the games here.
