Updates are coming..but first a little update!

July 27th 2011 15:50
Freed up some time, and will work on some new AFL blogs, as I start writing for TheBigTip again, and get in some articles. Also with the run home there are some interesting times ahead with the Eagles, Blues, and a few others looking to fight for the last spot in the four.

Collingwood and Geelong seem content with the way they are after both having cruised to wins on the weekend and are looking at resting some of their stars with niggles. Western Bulldogs are gone, while St. Kilda are fighting back top four might be out of their reach though.

Essendon are up and down and this week face the red hot Magpies, but as seen in many clashes against Collingwood the Bombers seem to find a bit and Collingwood have had some setbacks.

But the Magpies seem to find someone to replace their outs, with some suggesting that Lachlan Keeffe may take the place of Dawes for the rest of the season. Coaching sagas seem to never end, Neil Craig has fallen on his sword and he's gone. Bailey, Eade, and a couple of others are just holding onto their spots.

Bailey may be the next to go, Mick Malthouse has assured everyone he's staying at Collingwood but the news about him won't vanish. Mark Bickley was made interim coach of the Crows, but doesn't appear to want to be there full time.

Ricciuto has endorsed Scott Burns as their next coach, Burns has been an assistant with the Eagles since his retirement from football. Rodney Eade has seemingly taken his hat out of that race, but if he was to be offered a Melbourne based job, he could leave the Dogs.

But who would replace Bailey? Some Melbourne fans do want Mick Malthouse, but they have to be realistic, and some Carlton fans still want Ratten sacked for Paul Roos.

No one has seemed to look at guys like Paul Williams, Gavin Brown, or even Mark Neeld. Collingwood's Mark Neeld seems to have the smarts about him to be a coach and seems very ready for that even coached a premiership side, not at AFL level obviously but he's coached before.

Gavin Brown though has been an assistant for years, has also coached the Collingwood VFL side for a long time, so there's a name that could be thrown into a hat. Melbourne or the Dogs could look at those two names, but Paul Williams has done a bit of assistant work, he's an outside chance as well.

Dean Bailey does seem like he's living on borrowed time as the Demons coach, even though he's been given backing by Jim Stynes, but how long for?

Rodney Eades failure at the Dogs has seen his head on the block, and really, can you blame them? They were close to a Grand final in 2009 only to be denied by the Saints who were denied a premiership as well.

Roos seems to not be interested in coaching again, but what if Ross Lyon lost his job with the Saints and they called upon a proven premiership coach? Seems that his name would be close to the top of that list.

I am still not sold on Voss, seems he's been given a list with issues, a club with issues and seems to be unable to keep his head above water. The Lions have found many scapegoats though, and when they allowed Voss to takeover the handling of the Football Department review it seemed to suggest there were many more issues.

Why wasn't Voss under review? I know he was a champion player, and he's a brand new coach, but seems he hasn't the tactical nous to be a senior coach right now, maybe if he had have taken a bit more time and studied more maybe he'd get there.

He has been repairing a list that seemed to fade away over tine, and he has made a few enemies with players and fans, or at least that is how it's played out. Fans are not happy, some former team mates that are now no longer there aren't happy. But I am sure some will get over it in time, hard decisions are being made every day as a coach.

People have expected way too much from Hird this season, fans of the Bombers were expecting a Top Four finish seemingly buying into the pre-season hype. It's a 24 Round season, with 22 games being played by all. Those early wins, even the win of the Cats doesn't mean they are going to finish top four.

It's a time thing they are on the way up, slowly, but they are still missing components, and still they have impressed, have impressive players you need to give them time. The "dream team" of Thompson and Hird aren't miracle workers, they were never going to make this side a top 4 side after one season. Whoever thought that had rocks in their heads, play finals, improve, recruit well, improve more maybe then top 4 and then premiership.

It's common sense really, some fans need to practice some patience.
